Y2 yoga is good for:

  • Intermediate to advanced yogis looking to deepen their practice
  • Those looking for a hip place to intensely sweat

My experience at Y2 Yoga

I have visited both of Y2’s locations and will admit that classes differ greatly between location and instructor. I will give a high-level overview of the studio’s practices below, but for a full understanding of the different experiences, read customer’s Google reviews or visit a studio today.

Fast-paced flows

The typical Y2 class is filled with regular practicers, and as such the class is geared to a higher skill level than many other yoga classes I have been to. Instructors move the room quickly through multiple flows and offer many opportunities to try more advanced skillsets. As an intermediate yogi who hadn’t practiced in quite some time, it could often feel hard to keep up with the rest of the class, but overall I enjoyed the pace as it pushed me beyond my comfort zone.

Modern pop/rap playlist

To complement the speed at which we flowed from one pose to another, the instructors play more upbeat pop music than most other yoga studios. A typical playlist may consist of J Cole, Vicetone, Salena Gomez, and Pat Benetar. While I enjoyed the change in pace during my time at Y2, others have complained that the high-spirited music has the opposite effect and detracts from their practice.

Hot hot hot

In both Y2 locations, I found the heated classes extremely hot. This is possibly because I haven’t been in a hot yoga studio in a year (due to the Covid-19 pandemic), but I sweat more in these classes than I typically do running in North Carolina’s 90-degree summer heat. While I welcome this level of heat, I would suggest bringing extra towels and making sure you are properly hydrated.

Cotswold vs. Dilworth: What’s the difference?

My first Y2 class I attended was at the Dilworth location, which is one of the coolest yoga studios I have been to. It is located off Park road, on the second floor of an old industrial building. The studio has large open windows at the back of the room, which allowed me to practice while following the sun set.

Given my awesome experience at the Dilworth location, I knew I had to also try the Y2 in Cotswold village. While this studio seemed to be more popular, it did not wow me as much, as it reminded me more of an average Corepower studio.

What is Y2 yoga?

Y2 yoga is one of Charlotte, NCs top yoga studios. With locations in Cotswold and Dilworth, Y2 boasts that they offer over 100 classes per week, more than any other studio in Charlotte.

What makes Y2 different?

Y2 classes are more upbeat and dynamic than many other yoga classes. As explained by their mission statement:

“At Y2 Yoga, you might find our approach to yoga a bit out of the ordinary, but we like it that way. In our signature Y2 Yoga power classes, you will get a dynamic flow that focuses on cardio, strength and flexibility all to the soundtrack of beats that help to motivate and inspire. We believe that your practice should be fun, but challenging. Our methodology teaches you how to show up on your mat and, as a result, you will start showing up in your own life.”

How much does Y2 cost?

Y2 has many different pricing options, starting at $22 for one class and going up to $159-$189 per month for unlimited classes (depending on how long you commit for). However, Y2 does offer a 3-week unlimited trial for all new members for just $39.
